My Birthday look

I know I hardly ever show my face on my blog. But as I was so happy with my Birthday look this past weekend I felt good enough to share. My Birthday was last week and I am grateful to God for allowing me to see another year. I hope and pray I finally get fit though.
Moi
Anyway this is me sipping on a Singapore Sling. If it was not my birthday I doubt I would have spent £7 on one drink. It was absolutely gorgeous and really just tasted like pop so I downed that in no time. For my makeup I am wearing Urban Decay Naked palette, Sleek blusher in Sahara and Mac lipstick called Up the Amp. After consulting the lovely beauty bloggers on twitter @JennMUA @Vexinthecity @MissVirtue I settled on a brown bronzy smoked eye. When I tried on the lipstick in the shop it made me look like I had clown lips, but I  bought it anyway as I have wanted this shade for a very long time. Plus beauty bloggers and general beauty enthusiasts assured me I would look good with it.

Singapore Sling Cocktail
There is no local Mac store or counter where I live, so I have to travel to Nottingham, Birmingham or Leicester. Nottingham being the closest I went there this time and I was very disappointed with the service. To think it was my birthday week and I had money to spend but the sales ladies were useless.

One more thing I have long stopped wearing dresses by themselves. I always opt for a dress that would look nice with leggings. However I thought I would be daring and just try something different. I wore a one armed black dress. The armed side was chiffon and the cuffs were covered in jewels. So on my bare arm I wore a bracelet that had matching bling. I have body issues which meant although I let the leggings go. I still opted for a pair of tights.
Thai Dusit - Thai Fish Cakes starter
As my birthday fell in the week I went for a meal on Saturday at a restaurant called Thai Dusit. The food was lovely. It is a pity some friends let me down at the last minute. Though overall I had a good time and met up with other friends whose birthdays also fall in January.

Happy Birthday to you

It is my 1st born child’s birthday today. He is now 5yrs old and will be one of the oldest in his class. To help him celebrate I thought I would do something different. He got gifts as usual but also instead of a party we took him to Sundown Adventure Land. Which is a theme park aimed at young kids. All the rides in the park they can get on with adults. All the children were having so much fun and did not want to leave. Even better it was such a lovely day too.

MAC B-day treats

I know my birthday has long gone and now Valentines is on its way. However I received this parcel of goodies in the post last week. I was so happy to be given some MAC make up as a pressie. I love MAC products but cannot always afford to buy them.

I was given Mac Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Dark , a lip pencil in plum and a Lustreglass in Flusterose. They look so good on me. I suppose it helps that the friend who picked everything is a certified and practicing MUA. She always knows how to make my cheeks pop. Fingers crossed her website will be up soon and of course I will share the link when it is.

PS: Forgot to say the reason behind the lip liner is that my friend disaproves of me wearing dark brown lip liner. She says it takes me back to our uni days or even further back. So the lip liner was a major hint to try a different colour lip liner.

30yrs Old Today!!

If you did not know by now I turned 30 today. I am an official member of the 30’s club. I am so thankful to God for getting me here.

Update:

Above picture shows the gifts I recieved from my work mates.

My desk (due to security etc I cannot take pics at my desk) was adorned in balloons that said Happy 30th Birthday and loads of banners and the big ole badge. I received chocolates and makeup. The Makeup is by Victoria Jackosn who I believe is a makeup artist. I received TantilEyes which contains eyeshadow, brow gel, Eyeliner and Mascara, Perfectly Polished lip balm set that comes with a small brush applicator, and a shimmer powder brush. Oh and the birthday card was handmade by a talented person in my team.

I was quite amazed by the gifts I receieved. You can never go wrong with makeup for me or chocolate which I am going to slowly cut out of my diet. I need to start looking after myself better.

I am so looking forward to the weekend!!!

Bare Minerals Bare Escentuals

This is my 1st birthday treat to myself. Yes that is right. Any excuse to buy makeup when I can is a good thing. I have had my eye on mineral makeup like this for sometime. I have read so much good stuff about it.

So as my local Debenhams sells the full colour range I had to treat myself. I bought the starter kit for £45. It comes with two foundations (my kit came with Golden Dark and Medium Dark) which have an SPF 15, Mineral Veil (finishing powder) and Warmth( which is an all over face colour). It also comes with a skin primer called Skin Rev-er upper, an instructional DVD and info book. It is a pity that the info book was not an instructional too. The final part of the kit are three brushes – foundation, concealer and kabuki brushes. The sales assistant says this is all I need for flawless application.

The DVD covers the products in your kit plus other products you can purchase should you choose. For my skin she used Golden Dark, which the other sales assistant thought was a perfect match. I think I can use this loads. It does not feel like I have anything on. I still love my crème to powders and my mac studio fix powder NW43. Though this is new to me. So will be fun.

Have you used mineral makeup before? How was it for you?

Almost 30

I just realised that in 13 days time I will be 30 years old. Thirty years old and counting. Woii!! I do feel truly blessed to get so far in life. I have lived in some places and now I am just going through some things but I am here. Hey.

Today I got asked for ID. My friend asked me to buy her some cigs as she got her nails did ( I do not smoke). Now the funny thing is. The cashier said I did not look the same in my driving license oh and she was shocked at my age. Bless her. Yes keep those young comments coming.

Anyway my birthday is almost here and I have not bought any treats for myself as yet. I always treat myself because at this age and living so far from family presents are neither here nor there.

What I want to treat myself to is of course a MacBook. Decided will settle for a white one and give it a hard drive upgrade at the least.  A web design book which I bet will end up being a Dummies book (I am such a Stan). Bare Minerals Bare Escentuals makeup set (need to try something different so will be at the Debenhams counter being pampered). Hoop Earrings will definitely make a comeback with me, I used to wear them all the time. A pair of court shoes with heels that I hopefully can drive in.

There are more things out there that I want but these are a start. I have not got any great plans for my birthday as some of my 30 something friends have had over the last few months. I will be working on my birthday and going to my friends 32nd B-day party on the Friday. I will be having a joint B-Day meal with my friend so it should be fun.

Not sure if I should do anything else. Yes I know clear some more of my debt!! (my age shows in my thoughts lol. I am not complaining).

Happy 4th Birthday son

I know today brings about many sad memories for many people. To you I pray that each day gets you stronger and stronger.

On a brighter note it is my 1st born son’s 4th birthday. 4 years ago today he was born prematurely weighing just over 3lbs. (My blogging was rather poor than too). He is such a fighter genteel soul. I love him so much. I thank God for him, Jesus for keeping him through it all. He has done so well. He has just missed out on starting school this year. Though he is growing and maturing day by day. Oh yeah it was his dad's birthday yesterday too.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SON – LOVE YOU LOADS

Wish me luck to get all the food ready tonight for his birthday party tomorrow. 4 hours of screaming kids and their parents too.

My Birthday and Obama Day

So It is now official that Barack Hussein Obama is now officially the President of the United States. Well done.

Anyway the same day America swore in change I celebrated my birthday. Well I went out for a meal at a posh Chinese a few days before. It was a lovely affair. I am truly blessed with some wonderful friends. God is good to me.

On Tuesday I spent the day having my eyebrows waxed. I always get bumps, but I was given some after wax treatment. The bumps didn't appear the same day, but some are there. Maybe I need to wax them more often so the skin gets used it. I also spent a couple hours in the hairdressers having my 100% natural hair treated, trimmed and flat ironed. Yes I use heat on my hair. Change is good sometimes.

At work I got some lovely comments as my style changes so often but the most bizarre comment was 'its so soft'. Now I must wonder what was it supposed to feel like. Mmm. Certain comments you just know you are gonna get. One work colleague she was so lovely, she just said my hair looks nice and that she likes all the syles I wear. So I do wonder what they will say when they see my afro in the summer?????

There is something about Obama that has the world buzzing. I loved the way he was dancing and really getting down with people on inauguration day. Michelle looked gorgeous as usual. Apparently her eyebrows was considered too high and so was re-grown and lowered to soften her look.

Well the world is watching America now. Let's see how this president turns out.

I did not really get into too much about Obama only because there are loads of articles around.

My new son started my year

Before the year ended, i gave birth to my second son. I was sooooo praying and hoping as each week went by that he would wait till his due date. I had visions of giving birth on my birthday. Many friends and colleagues were told that i wanted to be remembered too. People thought that was funny but i was serious.

Like my first prince i prayed for my second. I asked the Lord in prayer on a day of expectant prayer that i wanted another child. I also added i wanted a girl. I still do. However the Lord provided and I have now been blessed with two beautiful princes.

As before didnt have any complications with this pregnancy. Due to a history of pre-term birth, well just my 1st born being born 7 weeks early the hospital consultant kept a close eye on me. I had 5 scans in total and on occasions was seen by the medical professions every week. Yet all boxes checked out okay. They still have no clue why i had a pre-term birth.

Anyway this is what happened. My birth story.

I had spent the day visiting my friend who was down from birmingham. I washed her hair over a bathtub (crazy i know) blowdried it etc. Thats as far as it goes for me doing someones hair. My son was quite restless and woke up hot and feverish, so he was allowed to stay in our bed whilst he was calmed down.

I wake up early hours of friday morning and turn over slowly in bed to lye on my other side and hear a pop. I went to the loo and thought something seems different. As i am walking back to the bedroom i am literally leaking. I know, too much information huh. I wake hubby to tell i think my waters had broke. The hospital tell me to come in for an assessment. I am feeling faint pains on the way there.

I am examined routinely and was given the option to go home untill pains increase. Also an induction is booked incase i dont go into labour within 48hrs. By around 7am pain is licking me. I am on the floor and wake hubby again to tell him to go shop for paracetemol. He asked me about the pain and was like call the hospital.

Just so you know, this pain was not sending me loopy like you see on both fictional and factual based pregnancy programs. It was just a bad period pain that made me stop in my tracks whilst the pain rippled through my stomach and sides. Hubby was like hurry up quick, he helped me dress and put my shoes on. Bless him. Men can be useful sometime ;) .

At the hospital they was taking what seemed like forever to admit me and give me my pain relief. I had a thing about pain relief because 1st time round I didnt even so much as get gas and air. Yet it was not as painful either. This time round once in the room i was given gas and air and was sooooo disapointed. I thought it would make me giggle or take the pain away. I was soooo disapointed I said to the lovely midwife its not working I need something stronger. She was an honest midwife though. She said 'I dont know what it helps but it does help something'.

I gave birth on my knees leaning over the top end of the raised bed. Midwife had rubbed my back which felts oh so good. I asked hubby to do the same and that seemed soooo much better than the gas and air. There were concerns about the heart rate but was still able to get a jab of pethodine. But by the time that took effect i had given birth.

Midwife was like wow, you went from 6 to 10 in half an hour. She said my labours are quick. I agree. 1st son 4hrs for the first stage and 24 minutes second stage. This birth labour was down as 2hours 1st stage and 5 minutes for the second. I am not complaining.

He had a low blood sugar level so they did heel prick tests every 3 hours and his feeds were regulated. Finally got to go home.

I am blessed with 2 sons and see them being an unstoppable and blessed duo.

P.S. no 2 pregnancies or births are the same. who knows if have more they will face the correct way round and my back wont be in so much agony.
