BET Heart of the City

Star Jones made a documentary for BET called Heart of the City :Dying to eat in Jackson. It is about the problems faced by obesity and the challenges it creates. The show talks with men and women who are obese of different ages who share their challenges in losing weight. They often have a reason to make changes such as being more mobile improving health and breaking the cycle for their children.

I found the documentary very inspiring. One lady had lost 100lbs in a year and is aiming to lose more. The initiatives that have been set up for weight loss and educating about benefits of changing to healthy food choices are really good.

Star Jones says about her involvement in the show

I used to be scared to step out there on the issue of Obesity but I realized that I wasn't being fair because I have a public platform and I need to use it for good…………I am not the "poster child" for a specific weight loss method but I am a true advocate for adopting a healthy lifestyle because with all humility, doing so has saved my life.

I found this documentary very inspiring. As you know my weight is a love hate relationship. I procrastinate a lot but have been making efforts. Have you seen this documentary yet? What are your thoughts?

Oprah to end her show 2011

Oprah announced on her live show that she is ending her show!

I am browsing Google reader and twitter and somehow come across this article from USA Today. I had double check the title. Ms Oprah Winfrey will end her show in 2011 after 25 years. Wow! I am older than the Oprah Show but have always known Oprah to be on TV from my early years in the states and all through the continuations of my life in my birthplace the UK.

Oprah is amazing. If only I could be in the audience one day for one of those fab giveaways. I would of course need to sort out a babysitter. Who or what or if , will it be possible to find another great human being that transcends races and genders and continents the way Ms O has done for so many years. An African American woman achieved this. In times when Black people are still being hated on Ms O maintained and now will move forward onto pastures new.

Oh my I just hope Diva TV gives us constant repeats after 2011. I will save my emotions for September 2011 when season 25 draws to a close in the meantime here is a quote from her website about why she is ending her wonderful show still watched by millions.

Here is the real reason: I love this show. This show has been my life. And I love it enough to know when it's time to say good-bye.

Twenty-five years feels right in my bones and it feels right in my spirit. It's the perfect number—the exact right time. So I hope that you will take this 18-month ride with me right through to the final show.

Please read more about the departure and her plans for the future on her website.

TK Maxx, Apple Bottoms

The family travelled to Burton today. It is a small town where you can find some nice bargains if you look for them. My husband was doing holiday shopping whereas I was simply in search of a new handbag. My intentions was to buy a bag the sits across the body so that whilst I am with my boys my hands are free.

However me being the impulsive shopper (when its an obvious bargain) got a bit too happy when I spotted some Apple Bottoms handbags in TK Maxx. I managed to persuade hubs to buy one for me and I bought the other.

I always find it amazing that TK Maxx always seems to stock the occasional Hip Hop brand. I have bought from them Fetish by Eve, Rocawear as well as more mainstream brands. TK Maxx may not always be current collections but you do find great pieces in there. My boys left the store with Ed Hardy hoodies, thanks to the sharp eyes of their shopping pro Aunty.

I am going to try force myself not but anymore handbags until I save up for a more premium bag. Maybe a Mulberry or a Chloe or just something different than what I usually get happy with.

Have you found any bargains in TK Maxx recently please let me know? After all bargains are this lady’s best friend!!

Rocking purple lips LeToya Lucket

The first time I saw the promo pics for LeToya’s new single Regret featuring Ludacris, I could not help but stare at the lips. The purple shade she is wearing is hawt!!!

In my late teens and early twenties I always wore purple lipstick. Though it was not bright like this. The colour purple is one of my favourite colours (including the film by the same name).

So any ideas what brands and shade colours/names I could buy to get the same gorgeous purple that LeToya is rocking in the above pic. So far I have been told to check out Revlon and MAC, but I need some shade names. What do you suggest?

Glamour Magazine and Nails Inc

I received my months subscription of Glamour Magazine this week. Thankfully the postal strikes have not affected this delivery. I was very surprised to see that it included a free full size bottle of Nails Inc nail polish. I do wonder if Glamour and Nails Inc have a partnership going as this is the second free Nails Inc polish I have received free. I am not complaining.

The colour I received is called “Shoreditch”. It is a beautiful hot pink and is very gorgeous. I applied to two coats and so far so good. I cannot complain.

I love a freebie especially when it is something I will definitely use again and again!!

A piece of Cake

I wanted a book to read from recommendations. So I asked my friends on Facebook for a suggestion. Overwhelmingly most suggested A Piece of Cake by CupCake Brown.

The book is described as.....

Following her mother’s death, Cupcake was just eleven years old when she entered the child welfare system. Moved from one disastrous placement to the next, like so many, she was neglected and sexually abused. She developed a massive appetite for drugs and alcohol – an appetite fed by hustling and turning tricks – and before long, stumbled headlong into the wild, notoriously dangerous world of the gangsta.

But ironically, it was Cupcake’s rapid descent into the nightmare of crack cocaine addiction that finally saved her. After one crack binge she woke up behind a dumpster. Half dressed and more than half-dead, she finally knew she had to change her life or die.

I highly recommend this book . I enjoyed the fact that it had a spiritual link to it as well. You have to read it.
